EnChor Announcements

September 2, 2022

Welcome back!

The summer has flown by and I hope you all have had a relaxing and refreshing few months.

We can all look forward to yet another year of making wonderful music together.

Here are some important dates and information for the year.

COVID PROTOCOLS FOR THE FALL

The EnChor Covid Safety Committee recommended to the board that EnChor continue to require masks at all our rehearsals.  We will have masks available at the front door as usual but the black singer’s mask is no longer available (only white). This policy will be revisited mid-fall to see if we would like to revise it especially in terms of our first concert in November.

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 9thFIRST REHEARSAL BACK AFTER THE SUMMER

  • 10:00 to 12:00 at Pacific Spirit United Church (usual venue and time)
  • Brown bag lunch social on the grounds of the church
    • It was announced earlier that this rehearsal would be in Langley with a social following at the Wolchok’s house. The board has decided that with the continuing Covid threat the planned social at the Wolchok’s at this time would not be the best idea. Many thanks to Nancy and Garnet for again offering their home to EnChor.
    • For all those who would like to, and feel comfortable doing so, we encourage you to bring a brown bag lunch and maybe a lawn chair and visit on the grounds of the church after this first rehearsal.

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 16th: REGULAR REHEARSAL FOLLOWED BY MEETING FOR WOMEN ONLY

  • 10:00 to 12:00 at PSUC: Regular rehearsal for everybody
  • 12:00: Brief meeting for women to discuss wardrobe issues

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 23RD: REGULAR REHEARSAL WITH SEAMSTRESS IN ATTENDANCE

  • 10:00 to 12:00 at PSUC: Regular rehearsal for everybody
  • Mary, our blue dress seamstress, will be attending the rehearsal from 10:00-12:00 where we will have individual measuring of our dresses for sleeve shortening and any other concerns women may have with their dress.

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 7thAUDIO RECORDING FOR CARE HOME CHRISTMAS SINGALONG

  • 10:00 to 12:30 at Pacific Spirit United Church (usual venue but in the church)
  • As announced last year, we’ll be making a new singalong video for care homes – this time seven tracks of familiar Christmas carols. The visuals were intended to be us singing together but, due to Covid restrictions and masking, the board has decided to record only audio (together), to which we will add imagery and words. Note the 12:30 release time. If you are not attending all four rehearsals Sept 9, 16, 23, and 30, your Section Leader needs to know so that they and Morna can decide whether or not you should record on October 7.  The repertoire will all be used in December, so do attend all rehearsals you can!

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 14TH: REHEARSAL FOLLOWED BY AGM

  • 10:00 to 12:30 at Pacific Spirit United Church (usual venue)
  • The AGM usually lasts no longer than 30 minutes and will be held directly after the rehearsal in the East/West Hall.  Please plan to stay for those few minutes extra and participate in this important event.

Many thanks again to all of you who participated in this year’s fundraising event which started out as the ScotiaBank Challenge but along the way morphed into the Vancouver Half Marathon. Thanks to all your efforts we surpassed our goal of $12,000!

BCCF CHORAL CONDUCTING COURSE

Many thanks to all EnChor members who were able to attend the BCCF Choral de Capo Summer Conducting Course as one of their Lab choirs.  A special thanks to Barry and Valerie for organizing and communicating to make this happen. The BCCF organizers greatly appreciated our participation, and we will be letting them know we are happy to be available next year as well!

NEW ARCHIVIST:

We very much appreciate Pete Chamberlain offering to take on the job as EnChor archivist.  He takes over from Suzanne Finch who we thank very much for doing this for so many years.

Cheers
