From Morna

I enjoyed rehearsal Friday and the music we are making together.  I will keep reminding you all to be an active part of shaping our tone, living in that beautiful place of simultaneously and intentionally producing the tone and actively listening and modifying.

This week we welcome Ken back and will rehearse six of the carols which will be recorded on Friday morning, October 7.  In terms of new music, we’ll sing Home and the Heartland and Take this Thread (letter E to m51).

Home and the Heartland divisi: I would like to hear the whole tenor section together on the opening solo.  Then, at 21, sopranos and altos in 3 parts: Top/Middle/Bottom. As in other rep, when there are only 2 notes, you revert to S/A.  I realize this gives an extra mental workout to those sop2s and alto1s!  Due to masking, I will likely put five or six sopranos and altos together for the solo at 43.  Be ready to raise your hand to be part of that.  Or we might go with everyone.

Ailsa’s Service

Wednesday, October 5   1:00pm

Pacific Spirit United Church

Choir call time in uniform with black folder: 12:10 in sanctuary

There are a few stools there – bring your own if needed. I don’t know yet if the 2 pieces are performed back-to-back

We (and all guests) will also be singing hymns

Uniform:

  • women – colorful silk poncho with black dress pants, black hose and shoes and modest gold earrings.
  • men – black dress shirt with EnChor red tie, black slacks and black socks and shoes.
  • We will all be wearing black face masks (bring your own).

This Friday, we will sing We Rise Again in anticipation of Ailsa’s service.  As Ann is aware, I’ve decided the opening solo should be the whole soprano section due to the challenges of masking. If you are new to the Brahms Wie lieblich sind deine Wohnungen, we will not sing this until the 30th, so please do some listening and learning on your own between now and then. Don Blake has added part specific parts for this piece to the “Current Repertoire” section of the web site.

Many thanks to all who have paid their membership fees, either by cheque or e-transfer.  This is a reminder to those who haven’t yet paid that fees are due this month.

EnChor tote bags

We still have some of the lovely EnChor tote bags for sale.  They are $25 each and available at rehearsals.

From Don Blake

I have added sound files to the web site for our new repertoire. I’ve also included instrumental soundtracks for the Brahms, Wie liebich… that we will be singing at Ailsa’s Celebration of Life.
